Wooden toys are still as fascinating and full of interest to children as they were thousand years back. Why? May be there is no scientific explanation for this but as these are totally natural and appeal to children for being having that “magic touch”. These wooden toys are not new to us and children of Roman and Greek empires were used to play with these. Wooden toys are durable, safe, and lovely to play with, are invitation to feel, touch, and explore. Wooden baby toys without batteries are open invitation to open-ended play which fosters creativity and keep normal as well as children with autism and Down’s syndrome interest in play. When compared with modern gizmo toys, wooden toys bring peace, harmony, concentration and creativity in to child’s mind. Blinking lights, sharp and loud noises or music and abrupt movements that come with battery operated toys can make child’s thoughts jumping from one to another in split of second, not helpful at all, and over-stimulate the child that can result in early exhaustion and loss of interest. Wooden toys on the other hand, follow the physical movements of child’s hands and results in better cause-and-effect phenomenon that foster learning and creativity in children. Battery operated toys do not provide child a very important “pause” during play to assimilate the information for natural progression. Wooden toys are proven to be more durable and safe. Research studies have shown that plastic contains many harmful ingredients like polyvinyl chloride that can adversely affect the health of a child. Wooden toys are more durable as compared to their plastic counterparts and also completely recyclable and thus nature friendly.

The other most important feature of wooden toys is that out of wood you can make toys which can be specifically purpose oriented like educational toys, therapeutic toys, learning toys for kids, and learning toys for toddlers. Great variety of Montessori wooden toys are also available following the Montessori school of thought. Educational toys made of wood does wonders in education process of a child. Simple blocks offer fun and refinement of motor and creative skill in a child. Different shapes made out of word appeal most children. Building blocks are the favorite learning toys for toddlers. Learning toys also present two benefits: play and learn. Learning toys come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Wooden learning toys are almost always the first choice of children. Developmental toys play significant role in early development of a child. Developmental toys should be of different shapes and in attractive colors and appealing to child. Similarly variety of Montessori toys made out of wood are available which foster creativity in children. No matter how many new hi-tech toys continue to hit market, wooden toys are there to stay for simple reasons mostly children aware of.
